Second day we visit a glacier and back again to enjoy seeing such a huge mass of ice about. After leaving the campsite Renfro's Lakeside Retreat (like long names like those Yankees), the caravan set off towards the city of Seward (one of the largest in the Kenai Peninsula). First, however, we turn from Highway 9 (3.7 mile) toward Exit Glacier, seller central located in Kenai Fjords National Park. A small road just over eight miles leads to a parking area where different treks out to get closer to the ice.
Rain accompanied us again, and along the road, we find a hiker who was the route to the glacier. We look with pity face and raises his finger hitchhiking. Do not panic our mothers (or allow us to collect autostopistes open the door to strangers ...), but stopped to pick it up. The poor are very wet and takes a huge backpack. But how do you walk over 12 kilometers ??? Dan, so says the boy is from Boston seller central and is doing a route to Alaska alone. Share until the caravan park.
He says he wants to make the longer seller central trek, the Harding Ice Field Trail, but we'll settle for a shorter hike. We get to the point called The Edge of the Glacier (the limit of the glacier). It is a very nice route, with a slight slope that leads up to find yourself very close to the huge chunk of ice. Ugh! Impress. Posters with different years are marking how far the glacier, and you realize quickly that suffers setback ice. We are loading the planet !!! (This is also what we call our mothers seller central ...).
The rain did not help to make the trip, but we do not care! We spent a good time in front of the huge mass of ice that has those colors so characteristic bluish. When we return to the caravan already been more than two and a half hours. Dan awaits us there. He says he has not dared to do the long route, the weather was not good, and aims to return to the city with us.
The next stop of your tent at a campground in Seward, and thanked us a thousand times our help (calm mothers, nobody has kidnapped!). That we take the caravan parked to visit the city. A main street with restaurants and shops and the port side. We went to eat something light to ranting Raven, a mixture seller central of shop / bakery / cafe.
We went camping in the motorhome to sleep. On our list we have said, and is on the outskirts of the city. Look good. When we arrived, we were mistaken in and this allows us to see all the facilities. Geez, plus the campground seller central has cabins and wooden buildings, small hotel rates. We entered the reception we all decided to stay. The response of a lady in our intriguing question of whether seller central to take place tonight is: "Are you military?" (You military? -us Translates breasts, not patiu-). I meant that some years ago I did my military service in Jaca, but my English is not allowed me to translate the joke. It turns out that we have gone to a camping area and rooms just for the military. Osti you! Change of plans.
Back to Seward seller central and camp right on the seafront in all that the city has an area ready for campers. Not bad. We approached the caravan to the window to give the water bed. It is true that we were told our friends George and Silvia, who visited Alaska a few years ago. The best views, if you visit this area, always seller central have campers (Good night, mother ...).
LAURA
It was a post in honor of our mothers, who are most suffering for us, he, he. All the good times we had in the first week, now we have it in the form of rain, but not for the good vibes ... Regards! Answer
