Before 1943 was the year of Koh Thao ... prison! The Thai government sent there by the creation of

Koh Tao Koh Phangan adjacent to a tiny island grouper in the Gulf of Thailand. Known for its beaches, crystal clear waters and rich coral reef. And did you know that this island paradise has its dark history?
Before 1943 was the year of Koh Thao ... prison! The Thai government sent there by the creation of political prisoners Borawadesh who have been transferred from Koh Tarutao in 1943 and 1944 years. The prison was on Mae Haad Bay, and were in the 54 political prisoners, 50 other inmates and 15 guards.
In his memoirs, the prisoners can find records, talking about what conditions prevailed on the island. In addition to malaria, grouper which could very easily become infected prisoners had to bathe in the water, which was full of sharks.
In 1944, all of The prisoners were transferred to the mainland. Until 1947. The island was uninhabited. This year we sailed on her brothers and Khun Khun Oh Uaem. New residents of Koh Phangan sailed traditional boats, made of woven palm leaves. Brothers removed from the island remains of the prison, and built a shelter on the north end of Sairee Beach. Soon, they were joined by their families and other people from Koh Phangan, who left to start a new life on Koh Tao. For many years people lived on Koh Thao with the cultivation of coconut plantations, rice fields, orchards and fishing.
When I first sailed on Koh Tao did not know that it has had such a story. Who would have thought that on this beautiful, paradise island not so long ago there was nothing but prison?
